But all this comes at a cost; Bryan McHeyzer in a comment on Part 1 gives the figure on $1,000,000 to set up a McDonalds in Australia. Now that’s rather too rich for my blood I think limiting the risk to $100 or less is the better option I think you will agree.

There are even some businesses that you can start for nothing. Not silly ones like stuff envelopes and make a fortune, my brother tried that when he was a student, he was the one who got stuffed! Or make….. [insert amount here], don’t you always know its going to be a MLM (Multi Level Marketing) “opportunity”.

Now if you want to lose friends fast and become a social outcast just follow the helpful instructions “Start by selling to your friends and family” or you could just hang a placard around your neck and ring a bell shouting “UNCLEAN” it’s just as easy.

What about drop shipping, just sell on eBay we ship for you! Yes of course I want to sell stuff on eBay at a much higher price to the drop shipper than I can source it myself. It does have the advantage of paying people to lose money on your behalf so that you don’t have to put the effort in yourself.

Open a shop, let’s consider the costs, find a business model and research it, find some premises pay out for the lease, stock the premises use your own capital to stock it or get a bank loan if you can. Then there is insurance, rates and utility bills to find the money for. Simple just open your shop and wait for the passing trade to drop in and spend a few quid on the items you have for sale simple.

Well may be not this approach could prove to be very expensive huge amounts of capital tied up in stock especially if no one wants what you are selling plus the added bonus of working 7 days a weeks. If you are not there every minute how can you make any money?

Perhaps an easier way is to buy a business franchise; this has many advantages over going it alone. With a top franchise you are buying into an already successful business model, you will get the support and training you need from a proven business formula.

You may baulk at the price of a franchise but are the very cheap ones worth the investment; unfortunately all franchises are not created equal or indeed offer the same value. Lets take a well know high street brand and a respected franchise Subway.

Why Subway? Well one has just opened in my home town and the shop it moved into was formally a charity shop. This has been fitted out in the Subway corporate image I have no idea how much this has cost but it will not have been cheap.

A subway franchise costs about £6,000 for the franchise fee plus the fitting out of the premises, and all the other costs above. So how much this will cost in the end could be frightening but I saw a figure on a franchise forum listing £120,000.

If the though of preparing all those sandwiches and working long hours 7 days a week is your bag and you have the funds it could be the one for you! NO? How about this?

Clean out wheelie bins, this one is £16,750 now if you charge £6 a bin then you will only have to wash about 3,000 bins to get your franchise fee back! I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to get started on a cold January morning cleaning out stinking bins.

With too many of these franchise opportunities all you are buying is a minimum wage job for years to come. Believe it or not you don’t have to risk your children’s inheritance on the words of Theo Paphitas you can start off for just a few pounds, you can minimise the risk to yourself and you can work the hours you want.

“It sounds too good to be true, but tell me more”.

You can start an eBay business for just a few pounds in listing fees, start by selling the stuff you no longer want or need and use the money you make as your starting capital to purchase some new products to sell. Did you know that you can sell the same products on Amazon? In some categories you will get a better price than you will get on eBay.

To me for the small retailer without a unique selling point and a hungry market the retail model is flawed and you will always be waiting for your customers to come to you.

What about working for yourself online? Easy to use template drive e-commerce packages are available at a very modest monthly cost for most hosting companies, why pay eBay’s extortionate listing and final value fees if you don’t need too when you can keep the profit for yourself. Sound good to you?

Top affiliates can earn a considerable income from recommending these products but for most people affiliate marketing is just one string that you can add to your business that will produce an income. As my mentor John Thornhill has said on many occasions many stream make a river. The more streams of income you have the more that you will make, it is better to have many small income streams than rely on just one or two sources of income.

What is not often appreciated is that there are large amounts of money to be made as an affiliate promoting physical products or services. Most big name companies selling branded or household name products have their own affiliate programs.

A simple search using Google or any other search engine for “affiliate programs” should unearth an extensive set of possibilities. A word of advice simply don’t promote every single thing you can this scatter gun approach is often counter productive. Find a series of products and services that you have a knowledge of or are passionate about you will have more empathy with the product of service you are promoting and this will come over in the promotions that you are involved with.

You can promote products via a website but that mean you will have to have some means of driving traffic to that website, one of the easiest ways of doing this is by article marketing which allows you to link back to your web site via a resource box at the end of the article.

You can also drive traffic back yo your website via forums for your chosen niche, on the website you will need some method of collecting e-mail addresses so that you can mail out your promotions to your list. Giving away a free eBook is often an easy way of capturing these.

How much e-mail do you get in a day? Well on my average weekday I may get up to 150 e-mails. Most of these will be people trying to sell me something that will make me money the easy way. Just push the button and the cash will flow forth! Easy, no need to do anything at all, push the button count the cash.

If you are like me I’m still waiting for delivery of my luxury liner, my order for my 6 Bentleys seems to have got lost somewhere in the system and I’m struggling to decide which small island paradise to buy. Reality check required, after you have been burned a few times you realise that there is no easy button.

There are however ways to make things easier, the real way to make real money in IM is to create your own products. But when you are starting out this maybe appear a daunting task and we are often faced with information overload. But there are ways making starting up a bit easier.

To set up and make a start in IM you only need a hosting account. If you have that you will have almost everything you need. You can expand by using Freebies from Giveaway Events, now some may frown on this but it is a way of starting without spending your hard earned on products you may not like or may not use. Save your money, you do not need to spend out large amounts to get started. You can obtain scripts, graphic programmes, templates, PLR information, Video and Audio products for a simple sign up to a list.

Learn how to use these products, you may find that some do not suit you as your ideas develop, at this stage you can pay for custom made products that fit in to the theme of your business you can even out source the work to others more skilled at these tasks than you.

 This must be the easiest way of making real money on Amazon there is, this well known 10 digit code can make the difference between failure and success.

 Amazon is a world wide brand, its core business is still books CD’s and DVD’s, the thought of even competing with them would send a shiver down most peoples spines. But you can compete and what’s more Amazon actually encourages you to do so, so why would they do that? Well Amazon deal with new stock so if you are selling the same article used (or even new if you can offer a competitive price) then you can compete.

 Amazon allows you to trade in its market place selling most of the things that are sold on eBay. Amazon allow you to set the price and you can also see how much other sellers are selling the same item for, it also has the great advantage that the postal charges are set so everyone is charging the same amount. When the item sells, Amazon takes a percentage of the sale, they do not charge a listing fee. No sale no fees!

 Here’s how it works, every book has an ISBN number (the 10 digit code) just try entering this number in a search and you will see all the sellers selling the same item and also the price they are selling it at. Now notice the prices, try a popular book, how about The Da Vinci Code? Selling for a few cents right, no good to us, so try this then. Academic, Hobby and Specialist books sell for much much more and the great news is they are cheaper to buy used.

 So where do you find these gems, try your local charity shops, garage sales, table sales, the free ads papers. Picture this in your local charity shop, on the shelf Dan Brown and “The Geology of Scotland” selling at the same price just a dollar or two, there is no big demand in the charity shop for The Geology of Scotland no one will be queuing around the corner for this! Resale value Dan Brown a dollar or two at best, The Geology of Scotland $60 resale value. It’s a no brainer, this is a real example of a sale I made recently and there are literally hundreds of these gems to be found. All you need to do is to search them out.
