How easy is it for you to work at home? Well for me it’s really quite easy at least most of the time. I can usually avoid most of the obvious distractions. What I am very poor at though is planning at home. This is where distractions really take their toll and hinder progress.
So what’s the answer? Well it depends on how you work, mine way is simple I head for one of the many offices scatted around the neighbourhood, I think some people can these public houses? I have several local ones that I can visit; it just depends on what I am doing or what the weather is like.
Last Saturday I went to one of my favourite outdoor offices near Silverdale in the southern part of the English Lake District, one of my favourite places on earth. You can get an idea of the solitude by looking at the pictures.
On a Bad Day You Can See Blackpool!!
The Lovely Town of Silverdale
The Pepperpot a Victorian Monument Nothin to Do with Monty Python
My desk and Office: No Computer!!
Here pen in hand I sat and wrote like some poor mans Wordsworth. I planned a huge chunk of my e-course 12 Roads to Success here last year. I was able to plan so much, that the writing came to me very easily. So in this very spot last Saturday I planned some additional content for Internet Coaching Monthly. In just over two hours I wrote over 12 pages of notes. What really helped was that it was a beautiful day and I hardly saw a soul all day.
So can I recommend a change of scenery when you need to get something done? Rob…

Robert,
Love the pictures and I really agree with you on this one. I just went wireless (I know who isn’t wireless right). I’ve started doing a lot of my writing outside on the back deck, it’s great!! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Hey Robert! My problem is with the distractions on the screen….I keep checking email, Facebook….I’m thinking about starting to use one of those text editors in full screen, so that you can’t see anything else there….Any tips? 🙂

Beautiful pictures Robert but I might get lost in the scenery and never get anything accomplished. I also know there is no way I would ever write with just pen and paper these days. I type way too fast and can get so much done with my computer. Now if I had a laptop then I could take that with me and possibly get more work done. But, I don’t have one of those yet for that very reason. I don’t really go other places to work, I’m always at home.
I love that you do have those places to go to when you are needing a change of scenery. We have nothing like that here, I live in the city.
I have no doubt that your internet coaching monthly will be a success though. Hope to receive more information on that as time goes by.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lynda I find just getting out the house is enough to get the creative juices flowing it’s so easy to become a hermit in this game!!

Hi Adrienne, thanks for dropping by, I live in the big city myself so I have to travel to these lovely places as well can’t imagine taking a laptop there it would be appalling LOL. ICM has gotten clickbank approval and we are having the site beta tested at the moment by a small number of testers to make sure we get this exactly right first time.

I also work at home and my problem is I easily got distracted from outside happenings… Maybe because I am also concerned to them and I am willing to help if any problem occurs…But anyway, I still do my work well…

Hmmm, and I thought your ‘out of the office’ office was the local beer garden…I too like to go out with pen and paper, I always get loads more done that way, much better than a computer, but I do fancy an iPad though. I’m working on that one.
Enjoy the journey.

The problem I have is that the main distractions (facebook/youtube etc) are in the same place (the computer) as where I work! Locking myself away still leaves me exposed to these distractions.

I laughed when you mentioned Monty python! Nice views for a work environment too by the way!

Hi Robert,
Your post really helped me to understand the different places of distractions in this world. It has great details and yet it is easy to understand.
That’s what i was looking for. I will definitely share it with others.
Thanks for sharing.

Loved the pictures of your “office”. My distractions when I am working from home include the regular family life…..do I run the kid to practice and hang out with the other parents or do I drop him off? I tend to opt for hanging around and then live under a preset deadline. Not always a good trade off.

Accommodation in the Lake District says
Hi Robert
Good article and pictures, I am based the other end of the Lake District – Cockermouth and yes it is a great place to live and work but can be very distracting with wonderful scenery on our doorstep.
