Firstly a question, where do you work best?
Mostly I work at home in my office, but just occasionally I like to expand my horizons a bit and become more flexible inn my working practices. On these days I prefer to work in one of the many office spaces that are available to me in the fair city of Liverpool. I think these are also known as pubs?
My current “office” (where I wrote this) is known as Bier and is an excellent venue with its selection of quality ales and imported beer it comes highly recommended, (but not on a Saturday night when the worlds worst DJ excels in driving away good custom after attempting first to burst their ear drums).
But is beer and work a good combination?
In my case yes, for me it’s liberating to be away from home with the frequent distractions and constant pinging of the email. Warning me of yet another cannot do without thingumy is for sale and if I don’t buy it now at a massive discount it may be gone forever, it just destroys the erm, what’s it called? Oh yes concentration.
I never take a laptop, or a netbook and the IPad is still where I left it, just me a writing pad a pen and a pint.

Hey Robert
Love your post, what a fantastic idea, a pen a notebook and a pint, what a way to spend your working day 🙂 It just goes to show that you don’t need to have a fancy all singing all dancing computer to make a living online.
I think that a lot of people work better away from the home/office environment, especially out in the fresh air. I might try it myself sometime, I live on the coast so could go and sit in a cafe somewhere and work. Keep up the good work mate and enjoy your pint 🙂

Hi Robert,
Great post mate. I’m still working, unfortunately. Yes, would love to bimble down the pub with pen and paper to hand and crack on. Maybe one day.
As for the tuppence you saved, well, put them in a jar until you have saved enough to buy another pint..lol.

Donald

Hi Robert, sounds like a good way to get some ideas down on paper. I also normally work in my home office, or in the living room with the family on a laptop, while I pretend to watch TV.
My best work is done when decide to get in “the zone”, which means going in to my home office and closing my email and Facebook to avoid distractions. Then, I play some good music and crack open a 16 ounce energy drink, and I’m on my way!

HI Steve
sounds like a good idea the first beer is on me, the only problem is after a hard day in the “office” it becomes very difficult to read my own writing. Sounds like a plan to me.

Well hello Robert, having switched to a working desk, I find that the ability to walk away have a drink, alcoholic or otherwise. Then walk back to the desk and continue with fresh mind is a great way to work for me.

You’re lucky Rob, I can’t concentrate unless it’s quiet. I can’t have anything playing in the background, not even music. I also can’t sleep unless it’s quiet so I’m just weird that way but I admire that you can go to a place like that and actually crank out what you just shared with us.
Of course I would definitely have to take my laptop with me because I’m just a much faster typist then I am writing things down.
Good luck with everything you have coming your way, must be exciting.
Enjoy your week now as you work away.
