The Easiest eBay Start-Up Ever?

February 20, 2013 By Robert Corrigan 16 Comments

One of the major problems with selling on eBay is the money you need to spend to invest in stock to resell before you even make a sale.

No matter how much you research your market there is always the possibility that some of the products you buy to resell will be complete turkeys, even if someone else is selling the same product successfully and at a higher price.

After all isn’t the idea of selling on eBay to make money and not to lose it? So here is an opportunity to make start with NO cash at all.

These are products that are available free, you only pay a tiny fee to list the product. This idea may never make you a full time income but it does have the following advantages.

  • The products are FREE

  • The listing fees are very small

  • There are many thousands of these products for you to choose from

I am talking here of using Public Domain (PD) materials or in other word products whose copyright have expired, or are free of any copyright restrictions.

The big boom market is in Audio Books at the moment, the Kindle Fire, Ipad, Ipod and other portable devices that can play MP3 files have fuelled the demand. This creates a business opportunity for us to tap into.

Here are just a few examples of sellers reselling materials in the Public Domain.

Look at the sales numbers 197!

What about radio shows or TV shows or even films in the public domain

Plus it does not stop with audio books, there is a big demand for e-books in different formats for the e-reader market:

Don’t forget video

Any one of these or a similar product will give you a good start plus this is all done on a shoestring, the downside is that selling prices are generally low but apart from the disk, postage and a small eBay fee the rest is yours.

So how do you start in the public domain? Well here is a freebie to get you started, it is by Steve Poke, and as far as PD is concerned he really knows how to make this work as a business.

Is this one of the easiest start-ups ever? I think so.

    Hi Robert
This sounds very interesting, I have sold a few things myself on eBay but have never thought of this. I will download the book and look into this further. It may be more difficult and expensive as I live on a Greek Island and the postage charges are higher than in the UK but it still me be worth doing.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Pauline,

thanks for dropping by you could alter the business model by making the product downloadable but then you could not sell it on eBay.

    Hi Robert,

Good post mate. An excellent product to work with. I purchased Steve’s product and can honestly say it’s an excellent product. I’m working through the programme, again, as we speak. A great way to get started, at least you’ll get income which will benefit you in the long run. Recommended.

    Regards

    Donald

    Hi Rob

You’re right this is an easy way to get started on eBay, minimal outlay but it is still a little time consuming dealing with the fulfillment – but nothing comes for free.

and I totally agree that the idea is to make money on eBay not to lose it. You could also send some kind of offer with every shipment, make it something relevant to the initial purchase and there’s a much better chance of your buyer spending a bit more money with you.

    Good skills mate
    see you soon
    cheers
    Steve

PS – I’m liking the update you made to the blog 🙂

Hi Steve, thanks for dropping by, the blog is still a work in progress buy will add to it as and when I can. The business model is good one and as you say you can sell a related product on the back end. Will do another post on this soon as it is something I am working on.

    Cheers

The mental block I’ve been having about getting back into eBay is it seems like a zero-sum game. Someone else will try to sell the same product but a few dollars or cents cheaper. The customer will usually filter by price first so they’ll go with that guy.

Although I know eBay is a great targeted marketplace that has tons of traffic, don’t you think it would be easier to sell your own unique content?

    What do you think?

    Hey Phil,

I actually do both, I have a lot of my own content for sale on eBay and lots of the other stuff. It’s a good way to start if you don’t have your own content,

    Cheers
    Rob

    Robert,

I have never done anything on ebay but this looks facinating and fun. I am going to download the book and look into it.

It would be great to make just a small amount and it would get me started.

    Thanks for the great idea.

    Hey Rob…

Thats not so much the platform it’s more the product simply NOT being in demand enough to a large enough audience…Information as well as ALL other forms of products sell more frequently to a market of people who will benefit BEST from them on a personal level…

…and especially on a repeat basis!

    Ed.

    Hi Ed,

nice to see you back, you are quite correct most people who are interested in this type of product don’t know where they gat get it from other than eBay.

    Hi Robert,
I heard people make quit good money from selling on eBay. Audio Books and PDF’s are being mostly sold these days and thanks for showing the examples. I never thought that resellers to make good sales now that I saw the images I could understand.
    Thanks for the share…

    Hi Visesh,

there is a ton of competition on eBay so selling price is generally low. I author the CD to sell some of my own products and some products as an affiliate that compliment the purchase.
